Re: Foot pedal issue HELP!!

Is the serial-to-USB adapter a DB-9 adapter -does the package specifically
say DB-9? I have a serial to USB for my footpedal, the first adapter I
picked up was serial, but it was more than 9 pins. It will still fit
together, but it wouldn't work right. The serial DB-9 to usb I have works
great, though sometimes I have to configure my player (not ES) for COM4.
When I plug my adapter into the computer, it installs a driver for the
adapter then tells me "my new hardware is ready to use". Does this happen
for you? Are you using XP? (I am, if your OS is different, your experience
after plugging in the adapter might be different too).

I purchased an Infinity foot pedal to work with Express scribe. I ordered
the serial port rather than the USB port which may be my issue. I have a
Sony all-in-one desktop with only USB ports and I use a LAN docking station
to add my printer (serial port not USB) and also to utilize it as a USB
hub. I figured I had the extra available serial port on the docking station
so I might as well just go serial port connection.

Anyway, I have Express Scribe on my computer and laptop. I connected the
foot pedal, but the computer does not recognize the foot pedal and when I
try all the various options in ES, it still wont work. It was recommended
that I make sure I have a gaming driver thing installed and when I try to
do that I get an error message that says "Your gameport or gameport
drivers are not properly configured. Please consult the device manager."
So I fiddled around with that for a couple of hours still with no
solution.

So I broke down and ran to RadioShack and got the serial to USB adapter
that was recommended. When I try to install the driver on my desktop, I
get a Windows error message saying that the installation was interrupted
and do I want to report/not report the incident. It will not let me
install the driver to recognize the USB adapter.

Finally I figure, fine I'll try my laptop and if need be I can run ES on
the laptop and type on my desktop. It lets me install the driver for the
adapter as demonstrated in the installation guide, but it still wont work
in Express Scribe :(

I'm at wits end here. Any ideas?

Maureen
