I'm thinking it is a combination of things. I think it may be the foot
pedal. I'm trying to work out shipping this stupid thing back to them and
getting a new USB pedal. Of course, they are trying to talk me into Start
Stop saying that Express Scribe may be the problem. I'm desperate here so
I'm willing to actually spend money just so I can start making some .

Maureen,
IMHO, it's not Express Scribe. This happened with me, the exact same
thing, and I wasn't using Express Scribe. Matter of fact, it still happens
to be sometimes when I'm trying to work on my laptop. The dang thing just
will not recognize the foot pedal. Then all of a sudden, it does. Yes... I
have literally come to tears over this happening in Belize, where I really
had no other options but to keep trying. Good luck.

Thanks Kathy.
Anyone using Start Stop or something similar? Is it possible it is
Express Scribe and maybe I need a different option? I'm willing to pay
cause I need to be making money rather than fiddling around here. So I'm
open to all options/suggestions.

Maureen, I'm feeling for you here, as I had the exact same trouble, and
for the life of me I cannot remember how I solved the problem, but I
believe it was a simple setting.... go through your ES and see if
anything looks amiss. I'm sorry I can't remember what I did. It might
have just been trial and error, and re-trial, and then it worked for no
apparent reason. That's the way a lot of my issues are solved. <sigh>

I purchased an Infinity foot pedal to work with Express scribe. I
ordered the serial port rather than the USB port which may be my issue.
I have a Sony all-in-one desktop with only USB ports and I use a LAN
docking station to add my printer (serial port not USB) and also to
utilize it as a USB hub. I figured I had the extra available serial port
on the docking station so I might as well just go serial port
connection.
Anyway, I have Express Scribe on my computer and laptop. I connected
the foot pedal, but the computer does not recognize the foot pedal and
when I try all the various options in ES, it still wont work. It was
recommended that I make sure I have a gaming driver thing installed and
when I try to do that I get an error message that says "Your gameport
or gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please consult the
device manager." So I fiddled around with that for a couple of hours
still with no solution.
So I broke down and ran to RadioShack and got the serial to USB adapter
that was recommended. When I try to install the driver on my desktop,
I get a Windows error message saying that the installation was
interrupted and do I want to report/not report the incident. It will
not let me install the driver to recognize the USB adapter.
Finally I figure, fine I'll try my laptop and if need be I can run ES
on the laptop and type on my desktop. It lets me install the driver
for the adapter as demonstrated in the installation guide, but it still
wont work in Express Scribe :(
I'm at wits end here. Any ideas?
Maureen
