You're right. And I really can't believe that in the throes of tomato
seedling time I'm actually wasting time arguing over such a trivial
matter!!

Speaking of tomato seedlings.... First, I finally planted some of my young
trees and flowers and it's STILL FROSTING!! Damn it!! Hopefully, they'll
survive.

Trees, shrubs and perennials should be okay, but don't plant annuals for
another two weeks. (Except for fully grown geraniums - those suckers are
Hardy!)

Second, tomato seedlings.... Liz, I started some tomatoes here in the
house.
When do I put them outside??

Starting tomorrow, put them out in the shade for about an hour or so
(shielded from wind), then bring them in, and repeat the process every day,
adding an hour a day. This is called hardening off and will prevent shock
when you do plant them. The last possible frost date here is 5/10...it's
probably 5/15 or so where you are. If you plant out before then, have
something handy to put on top of the seedlings at night if frost is
predicted. I've discovered over the years that there's no benefit to
planting your seedlings early as the colder evenings actually slow down
growth. Last year I planted on 5/15 and my plants still reached over 6 feet
high on average by August.

What types are you growing? I'm actually selling my heirloom tomatoes this
year rather than leaving them on strangers' doorsteps in the middle of the
night!
