I still don't work with a contract - another thing I love about new service. Gee, are you saying Janice isn't an experienced businesswoman. Forgive me if I'm wrong, Janice, but I am pretty sure I recall her saying same thing. A contract is not worth paper it is written on to me. I certainly am not going to expense to take it to court for some minor infraction and I don't need a contract to keep me fulfilling my obligations. I had someone once try to get me to sign one after almost a year of working - full of clauses not even relevant to me - and assuring me they didn't apply to me. If I sign something, it applies - as I'm sure anycourt would tell you. BUT JUDGE he said it didn't apply...
I've rarely worked with one - major exception a couple of larger services. So far never had a problem. I like being able to quit when I want and I'm happy to return the favor of the MTSO being under no obligation to keep me. From what i can see, most of the contracts favor the MTSO - so naturally you would feel that way. Not working with one has no bearing on my work quality or reliability.

LOL. I said I know what my state has been known to do, Jeannie, now you're saying I didn't.
I think there are several folks here too worried about this. Why? I have always been here to help the "little guy" since I started running the AOL forums. SO many folks do not know any better, and I see nothing wrong with encouraging them to be treated fairly.
Why does my stand on this piss you off so badly? It's my opinion. I've arrived it at after about 10 years of observation in various online forums, and hearing how people work. IF you are not guilty of treating your ICs (or some of them) as employees, why are you worried about those who are doing this getting caught?
Experience only counts if it's GOOD experience. How many times have
you said you don't work with a contract? Not exactly qualified advice,
IMO.
I have a rule for myself I'd caution others to follow - I don't take
advice from people who haven't demonstrated expertise in what they're
giving advice about. It's like taking marriage advice from a friend
who's been divorced five times, or never married. If you're going to
offer your services as an independent contractor, then you're running
a business. Get some qualified advice, even if it costs money.
I paid good money to sit down with a lawyer - I'm pretty sure the
advice and direction he gave me is a lot more accurate than the advice
you're giving the "little guys" you counsel.
