Well, sort of. Because yesterday this whole thing got me thinking (about the original subject, mind) and I have to ask this:
What is MORE virtuous about non-citizens' Sad Stories than our citizens' Sad Stories? Why is it more virtuous to care about the plights of illegal immigrants than the plight of the Bams and Lizzies and Sandis and Phyllises and Barbs and Lizzes and Melindas of the United States?
And let's not speak to our own poor (and getting poorer, thanks to under-the-table illegal labor). Why isn't it virtuous to care about us FIRST and everyone else later?
