Well, from God's point of view, all the things believers claim to be
forgiven for are as bad or worse than the crimes we think are horrendous.
Is murder more offensive to GOd than blasphemy, for which no one goes to
jail these days (that I know of in this country).

Haven't attended any. I just know what I've heard and read from the
Religious Right: Law and Order; Tough on Crime; build more prisons;
etc. etc.. It's increasingly clear that their idea of forgiveness
applies only to little stuff like sassing mom, not putting your clothes
away, and things like that. Major sins must be punished, and punished
as severely as possible.

Forgiveness and holding people accountable for socially unacceptable
behavior are not the same thing.

Nu?

God's forgiveness does not mean that people are not held accountable for
their behavior.

Divine forgiveness is in regards to issues to eternal issues, not temporal
or societal.
