<G> You sound like my dad, Susan! He used to pray that my bird feeders a couple of blocks from his house would keep the birds occupied and away from his house. OTOH, I probably wouldn't be too thrilled with your woodpecker either! You'd think the metal would hurt his beak!
I saw a bald eagle for the first time this winter at a lake in Mississippi. He was diving into the lake when I first spotted him, and then he perched in a tree just a few yards from where we were standing. With binoculars, I was even able to see the color of his eyes and hooks in his beak. It was absolutely awesome!! It's so sad that people seem to find it necessary to destroy every scrap of wild habitat remaining in order to build more houses and shopping centers. I just hate that.

Damn woodpeckers! They like to beat on our metal on our chimney at 4:30.
a.m.! It sounds like a bloody machine gun. The first time I heard it I
flew out of bed (this is Lakewood after all -- assumed it was a drive by)!
:) Finally, one day I yelled out to the female 'hook up with the *** so
we can all get some sleep"! This apparently is their way of attracting
females -- I told DH that all the females probably think, what a jerk he's
beating on metal!
My sister in Boise has a gazillion birdfeeders and has a ton of birds. I
think she is nuts! They are messy and noisy! She does get some unusual
ones however, and even some doves! What I like around here is we have
eagles and once in a while a falcon! We will most likely lose the eagles as
the trees they rest in will be torn down this summer for a development and
they just okayed the destruction of the eagles trees since it appears it
isn't a "nest"! You know, who needs trees to breathe -- global warming is
just a fantasy there is no such thing! Cut all the damn things down. What
is so stupid is they could leave so many of them and still build but it so
much easy to clear cut (plus they sell the lumber to offset building costs).
It's such BS!
