Theoretically a murder case is always open. It may go cold and be on the
back burner, but if someone comes up with a credible tip they do need to
follow it. Whoever committed the crime could still be alive now 31 years
later, and brought to justice. I don't think they necessarily are spending
oodles of time on it, just following a lead now that has popped up, and
since it's such a high profile case that Hoffa has become synonymous with
completely mystery, of course the press is all over it.
