BTW, did you ever resolve that problem with the noise and static on your pc?
I was going to post on that today or tomorrow, but I have been totally overwhelmed with life presently. In between trying to recuperate from bronchitis and sleeping 10-12 hours a day (sometimes more) to catch up on all the sleep I couldn't get while I was having problems breathing plus having to locate a dentist on my insurance plan who would repair an injured tooth (which involves, among other things, finding out what the current insurance plan is and getting their provider information from my estranged husband, whose dental insurance I am covered under) and then getting myself and my children established with this dental group along with getting the urgent dental care I needed, I have been working on it in my spare time (if there is such a thing) between the usual various and sundry crises that erupt over here on a regular-to-continual basis (e.g. in this case, a compromised ATM check card that resulted in having to replace all credit cards *and* cancel the AOL service that whoever had the card number had thoughtfully subscribed to in my name; difficulties with abominable Tracfone customer service regarding upgrading to a new phone that took me several hours on the phone several times to resolve, among several others).
Over the course of diagnosing this, I have added memory, replaced the headphones and keyboard after selecting new ones (N.B. I have a miserable time making decisions, and it is always extremely time-consuming and very stressful), defragged, optimized, backed up, upgraded, uninstalled roughly half the programs I have on this computer (including MS Office -- twice -- and both my Windows expanders) to see if they were corrupted or otherwise causing problems, reinstalled them in the wrong order, discovered that several programs wouldn't work either with each other or by themselves if they were not installed in the correct order in relation to other programs, re-uninstalled and re-reinstalled them all again (at least once) until I got it all right, changed antivirus and firewall programs x multiple iterations (see above comments about making decisions) until finding ones that were compatible with each other, that I was happy with, and that seemed to work better with my system, re-set program settings on every program imaginable, etc., etc., etc.
I think I did everything to this computer that you could possibly do to a computer except read War and Peace to it backwards *and* buy new speakers and/or a new video card, which was my next step (buying the speakers and video card, that is, not reading War and Peace to it backwards, although I *do* have the etext for War and Peace on my HDD, which would have been helpful if I had needed to use it LOL), but after having been sick for 3 weeks and not working much and then spending all the time on this and not working much, I had to wait for more money to come in before I could do that. (Oh, and after that, my next step was going to be to load everything on my laptop after upgrading all the hardware so that it would handle the day-to-day load, and see if I had the same problem there.)
As of late last night or this morning some time the problem is *F*I*N*A*L*L*Y* gone. PTL!!!!!! *collapsing into a wrinkled heap* So I have absolutely NO idea which thing I did that made a difference, but at any rate, it's now gone, and I'm not asking any questions that might raise any suspicions that might make it raise its ugly head again.
I wish I were still working on mainframes. It was so simple then...
Sorry if this sounds insane. I am pretty loopy after my dental visit this morning, and in retrospect I think the whole thing is rather amusing. But it *was* insane, anyway, so maybe it's okay if it sounds that way.
