I've figured out the answer:
Save your money and your miles, and go business class!
They've really made it so crowded in economy that it's almost not
worth the money. Not a square inch of extra space in which to stretch
out without breathing down someone's neck. And service is a thing of
the past. I flew on three different carriers: Delta, Alitalia and
Air Canada. The first two were very mediocre and the last one a step
above that, but not much of a step.
Oh, and now that I'm home safe and sound I can tell the world: NEVER
USE PRICELINE.COM.
Don't make me explain -- I get too upset talking about it. Take my
word for it. Whatever money I saved by using them, I more than ate up
in the time I spent dealing with them by phone and email.

Wow. What a place. Thanks to Janice for letting y'all know that I
was alive and well and enjoying myself. Maybe I'll find time to post
my pictures. Right now I'm dealing with a seriously "out" back --
traveling by train, lifting and schlepping, sure took its toll on me
-- but I also got one of those great head colds that you only get
after long airplane rides. So I'm stumbling around in a fog, looking
at a ton of left-over work and wondering where to start. More
soon....
