I've had the bejeezus scared
out of me a few times (my back is to the door) because I don't hear----
someone
speak and I don't sense them approaching me.
precisely why I never put my desk with my back to the door. My son used to
just *love* to see me jump when he'd come up behind me.

Actually, they predict Ipods and their equivalents are going to do it far
worse and far faster than any of the other audio systems. Putting your
plugs in your ears and listening to your Ipod at a "fairly" loud level is
the equivalent, I think they said, of a jet engine.
I'm having difficulty right now with my eustachian tube on the right side
being agitated from transcribing.... and I used to be able to hear someone
speak to me from the doorway while I was working, hearing everything going
on in the house in fact, but the last few weeks I've had the bejeezus
scared
out of me a few times (my back is to the door) because I don't hear
someone
speak and I don't sense them approaching me.
I think the current
trend to install high-powered audio systems in cars and then blast away
is
going to create a future generation with a lot of hearing issues.
