Utility costs are outrageous, but at least here in Chicago, my electricity
bill will be between $200 and $300 a month during the summer, going down
only to about $125 the rest of the year and my heating bill in the winter
will be about the same - $200 to $300 and in the off months, it is about
$100 (because I like to pay more so I have some sort of set-off).

We have cooling centers available for those without air-conditioning and the
gas company is not allowed to cut off service during the winter.

Sorry about your high bill, but....

Just so you people with high winter heating bills don't feel so bad, I
am posting my A/C bill for May. You are going to be reading about
people dying this summer because there are many on fixed income that
won't be able to afford this.

My A/C bill was $475.00. Last year and every other May it has been in
the $120/160 range. I do have a large house, but am only cooling
approximately 1200 feet with all rooms that I am not using closed off
and rugs placed in front of the doors.

If this is May, my Aug and Sep bills will be in the 800 category.

I know there is a price for living in hell/heaven but this may be bit
too much for many elderly folks. We are paying .22/kw
