There is no double standard. No one is giving her a free pass here. She
did a horrible thing. She was also psychotic (mentally ill). It doesn't
appear that her husband was. She was in a position of submission to a
man and a belief system. The husband may have been brainwashed as well,
but he wasn't the one giving birth to 5 kids and he wasn't psychotic.
There is a HUGE difference. Unfortunately, I imagine the preacher skates
free. She was in no state of mind to decide anything rationally for
herself, yet the state of Texas wants to kill her?

Of course there is a double-standard, unless you think it would be
societally forgiveable for him to drown her because she refused to have
sex with him.

After all, he was indoctrinated that women are to be submissive.

Are you deliberately ignoring the fact that she was mentally ill and he
wasn't?

Sandi

No, I'm not deliberately ignoring that at all. I am fully aware of the fact
that she was mentally ill and I don't at all that she should be held
responsible for her actions as if she were sane.

I am not arguing that perpective of the case at all. I am just arguing the
issue of his possible culpability and frankly became a bit weary of all the
male demonization that goes on here by a very few individuals.

Nobody here knows what this guy's motives were or what his heart is like.
He most probably could have made better choices than he did. Most of us can
look back and say the same thing. That doesn't make him guilty of anything.
