Re: OT: THE MURDERESS, ANDREA YATES IN HOUSTON, TEXAS

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Apparently expecting a sane man to be equally responsible for the children he co-created is demonizing men? I am really completely baffled - except that all Ed can see is a man is being disrespected. My husband would probably agree that I have issues with men. Of course, how is one to judge other than from one's own experience and observations. There are some good men out there - I'm married to one of the best - but there are a LOT of pigs out there who abuse women either physically or emotionally or both, shroud it in religion, and .... then blame the evil Eve spawn.

There is no double standard. No one is giving her a free pass here. She did a horrible thing. She was also psychotic (mentally ill). It doesn't appear that her husband was. She was in a position of submission to a man and a belief system. The husband may have been brainwashed as well, but he wasn't the one giving birth to 5 kids and he wasn't psychotic. There is a HUGE difference. Unfortunately, I imagine the preacher skates free. She was in no state of mind to decide anything rationally for herself, yet the state of Texas wants to kill her?

Of course there is a double-standard, unless you think it would be societally forgiveable for him to drown her because she refused to have sex with him.

After all, he was indoctrinated that women are to be submissive.

Are you deliberately ignoring the fact that she was mentally ill and he wasn't?
