If I'm not mistaken, the family was involved with this about 20 years ago.
It was the order of the court that the noncustodial parent be allowed the
dependency deduction; the custodial parent refused to sign the papers, and
the noncustodial parent was told that, court order not withstanding, the
written permission of the custodial parent was necessary.
