Re: Job, day one

You're not too soft. Sure some of them may be playing the sympathy card, but one thing that has always bugged me badly is cases I've seen (granted on news type programs) where it seems a DA is going for the kill no matter what, no matter what a prior record, no matter what... Brought me to tears. My personal feeling is if you teach a kid young there is no justice or mercy even on an offense they didn't know was an offense, you're going to create a real criminal eventually.

Glad you got the pantyhose thing fixed tho! LOL. One thing we don't have to worry about as MTs

((This is going to be FUN! :) ))

Well, Sandi, now that the first week is almost over, and you've
survived it, is this new job still fun?

Wellllll...... :)

I have to say that it is a bit overwhelming. I joked about being pointed toward the courtroom and having them say "go," but I didn't think it would really happen that way! Still, I haven't passed out, passed gas, or thrown up in court yet (although I did tuck my suit skirt into my pantyhose once, but fortunately caught it!), so I consider my first week a rousing success.

One thing that is shocking is that with a lot of misdemeanors, I don't even see so much as the warrant until the case is called for trial. There I sit looking at the warrant and deciding who to call and what to ask them on the fly. Even with that, I've gotten some convictions already! Yay for me.

On the other hand, since I'm in juvenile and family court, I have felt sorry for some of the kids I'm supposed to be "against." It's possible I may be too soft-hearted to prosecute, but I'm going to give myself a chance to build some tough skin. But one thing is for sure: I've definitely chosen the right field.
