Re: Air travel carry on restrictions - what's next?

AMEN! She always presumes she knows exactly what the situation is and that she would have known better. Hell, what if it had been her disabled spouse standing in line and finding it difficult due to his medical conditions. Who in their right mind would think that stepping a few feet to the side to sit down in a chair would get a gun pulled on you. Now, I've experienced first hand what it's like to think about what movement you're going to make because of law enforcement. Going through East German checkpoints into West Berlin where they rolled mirrors under the car or going through Check Point Charlie into East Berlin - those cops were not playing, and while people joked a little about it, I'm sure no one was going to make any fast moves. Big difference. That was a communist country in another time, not the United States of America.

I should not bother to answer, but it infuriates me! Where on earth do you get the idea that I was "walking away from them"? It was a few steps to the side, actually closer to the armed guard and one of the "inspectors" who were holding my belongings. The chairs were empty and placed so that it appeared to me that is what they were there for.

Phyllis, you scare me, too. More than the guy who pointed the gun at me. If we lose more of our freedoms it will be because of people like you.

Nowhere did I say what they did was right. What I did say is that had she
told them she needed a chair instead of walking away from them it wouldn't
have happened. New times or not. Whether one is in a car or in a line, if
she had voiced the fact that she needed a chair they would have provided
her with one.

It isn't up to the enforcers to make sure we know what we need to know. It
is up to us; it is our personal responsibility.

Being told to get back in the car when you've been stopped is a much
dfferent thing. You've been stopped. Actually most people know they
should sit still and make no fast moves, especially these days. Getting
in line at the airport is another thing all together. It was new times,
new rules, and it's up to the enforcers to make sure we know what they
are and to understand that American citizens dont even fathom needing to
ask permission when they are not under arrrest doing something perfectly
legal. That's the scary part.

The only time I was stopped by a cop I started to get out of the car, he
told me to get back in, and I did. What part of complying with a simple
command is so hard? You don't have to understand anything except that
you are being asked to take your shoes off, and since you can't doing it
standing up, you ask for a chair or if you can use one of those chairs.
Its not brain surgery.

WOW! Ignorance is not an excuse? How can someone be expected to know
something is wrong when they have not been told it is?
