This has been in the news a lot around here; he's kind of local. At
first, the judge said he must go through treatment and then on appeal, it
was knocked down. The kid is well spoken, has a good head on his
shoulders, and has tried conventional therapy. His parents are behind him
100%. The people of our state are behind him 100% (well, for the most
part; there are always zealots). At this point in his life, if he were my
son, I'd have to go with his wishes. He's the one with the disease.
Look at it this way -
If this 16-year-old had killed someone, the courts would try him as an
adult and give him adult sentences, etc.
This 16-year-old wants to make adult decisions about his own life. He
should be afforded the same "courtesy" as a 16-year-old murderer.
I wish for him only the best. I hope that he will continue to be allowed
to make his own major health decisions.
