I agree with those who think that sexualizing children by putting makeup
on them and parading them in beauty pageants is unhealthy.
A child is not put in a beauty pageeant so that she can win an award
for an essay or a science project or some contribution she has made to
her community. A child is put there to win based on her beauty and
poise. The talent part is secondary or the pageant would be called a
talent competition and the kids would not be dressed up like little
tarts. There is nothing cute or naturally beautiful about a 6-year-old
girl wearing makeup. The makeup is there to do the same thing it does
for hookers--make the child stand out by making her eyes look bigger,
her lips look redder, and such.. The makeup is there to make the child
look sexy. The really sad part of this is that these kids weren't born
wanting to be in beauty pageants. Their parents put that idea in their
heads.
The parents of JonBenet are not responsible for the actions of a sick
man. However, when society allows little girls to be made up like
adult women and participate in a parade to see who is the most
beautiful, society IS responsible for allowing the sexualization of
kids. You don't have to be a shrink to figure out that these kids are
like bullseyes for pedophiles.
