IMO, it is very different. Gymnastics and ice skating take a great deal of
skill. Granted, there is a bit of "talent" required in the talent
competition and you do need to be able to hold a smile for a good long time
but beauty pageants generally don't require much more than smiling pretty
and prancing around.
