Everybody's "different." I've known only a handful of Alaskans, but I've never known any of them to be downright rude and generalize the way Susan does. I'm sure there are some people who think along the same lines, but not every Alaskan is going to think and act that way--and certainly not all. We just can't generalize and assume that everyone who lives in a certain place will think like everyone else living in that place about any given thing.

That's not a generalization, though. That's a direct comment to a specific person.

Everybody has "outsiders," though. That goes for state to state, city to city, etc. We don't have to be downright rude and insulting to people because we're all different.

But differing viewpoints about the conversation issue (as well as other political issues) are found throughout ALL of our U.S. states.

That's exactly my point. Are you going to insult someone who lives in another state because you have a preconceived idea that everyone in that state ALL think the same things about a certain topic? I don't think so--and that's exactly my point.

I don't know who Floyd is. He could be an idiot or an Einstein, for all I know; but I certainly wouldn't assume everyone in his region thought the same way about any given subject. Heck, all the members in my family live in the same city and don't agree on a lot of things, and I'm betting everybody else's aren't likely to agree on everything, either.

Bet you still try to be civil towards them, though. Seems to me that we just can't presume to know what a person thinks just by where they come from nor where they live. But if we do have preconceived notions about people in any given area, I don't think it's in good taste to be downright insulting to them on public boards.
