We were able to get homeowner's insurance including quake coverage
through the same company that carries our car insurance (Wawanesa, in
San Diego). Our premium including quake coverage is around $1400 a
year, with about half of that for the quake coverage.
We're in no danger of losing our house in case of quake, but it's a
small amount to pay for the peace of mind, especially knowing that my
parents had close to $100K in damage to their house from the Northridge
quake, and there's no way we could absorb that kind of hit ourselves.

Do any of you have earthquake insurance on your home? My insurance
company sent me a notice about it, and I'm wondering if it's worth it.
The policy wouldn't be through the company that insures my home but
handled by them for the California Earthquake Authority.
The amount of dwelling coverage they quote is for $183,143 with an
applicable deductible of $27,471. If the deductible isn't reached,
the
amount of contents coverage of $5,000 isn't paid. There is an amount
of additional living expenses of $1,500, but I don't see it's tied
into
that deductible.
The rate or premium is only $350, so I can easily afford it. I'm just
wondering if it's worth it, and if any of you have opted for EQ
insurance.
