I had a similar problem a while back with creating a special tool bar with
just things I liked and having it disappear everytime I reopened Word. I
put the install discs back in, let it do a repair and whatever it did, it
works now. You may want to try that.

I have both Word 97 and Word 03, but they're on different computers.
On my Windows 98 system with Word 97 I can not get the text that
should appear when your mouse hovers over the icons on the tool bars
to stay, no matter what I do! I can make it happen with tools/options,
but when I exit the program, the text won't appear again until I set
it that way when I start Word again.. I know there has to be a way to
do it and make it permanent 'cause it works on Rae's Word 97 and Word
97 at my office as well.
Anyone? This is driving me nuts! I've used help and that stoooopid
paper clip helper to set it, but nothing it tells me to do is a
permanent fix--only for that session.

not. I guess my brain adapted!
then options, or does it not work at all?
There has to be some fix for this...
