Re: Asking for a raise

I explicitly tell people that are interested in becoming an MT that they
think it over big time, because it is pretty much a stagnet profession as
far as making average or better than average money, unless one wants to
devote most all their time typing. I especially tell this to people with
small children or children in grade school, who think that they can "bang
out a few hours on the computer" each day and make a living wage while still
doing every single thing that their family wants them to do.

On the other hand, as an IC, one's expenses go up, and occasionally it is
necessary to ask for a rate increase to meet these expenses. Other
professions raise their rates when their situation changes. Usually one
has
to make a certain amount to cover expenses, etc, and make some sort of
profit.

Other professions may raise their rates when expenses go up but that's
now how healthcare works. Expenses have been skyrocketing while
reimbursement has been plummeting. It simply doesn't fly as
justification in this industry.
