I would not, under any circumstances whatsoever, take a statin. Ever.
First of all, every single advertisement for a statin slips in the "not
proven to prevent or treat heart disease" disclaimer for a reason. Second,
I've no interest in trading a reduction in cholesterol for potential liver
damage. Finally, the associated flu-like symptoms have a real effect on
quality of life, and even if not everyone experiences them, they are common
enough that I wouldn't chance it. To me, it's like using an elephant gun
to kill a gnat.
