Mainly because I am very curious about myself

I have been contemplating this for several days and wonder if others
have any thoughts about this.

George Allen, is running for a VA office. He made a statement that was
considered racist. He tried to get out of it. So out of the woodwork
comes several of his college friends to further add fuel to the fire.
My post isn't about the statement, his explanation for trying to get
out of his statement, or further statements.

I surely don't plan to run for public office (bigger problems than
probably racism) but my question to those of you is.....

Can you be sure that you have NEVER made certain statements. Obviously
if they have you on tape, or at a pro-something rally your denial may
be harder. I can say that since I was 25 I have never said certain
words or told off-color or racially motivated jokes. I am pretty sure
that I didn't before that, but I can't be sure. I grew up in a
radically charged area in the time of riots and had to leave my high
school because of the race riots. Is there someone in my past that
would step forward and testify that I made racial comments? I don't
know, but I am wondering about this.

Can any of you swear with certainty that you have never made any
antisemetic, racist, antiwoman, anti-man anti-gay statements or jokes
in your entire life?

I don't think I am going to meet my maker, but I an curious about this
and how others may see me. George Allen says that he never made these
statements. There are quite a few people stepping forward (with no axe
to grind) stating that he did make these types of statements, so it may
be a difficult thing to call.

I guess my answer for myself would be that I am not sure. I don't
think that I made these type of statements, and that I do know for a
fact that when I knew better, I did better. I guess I am surprised that
he didn't acknowledge that he may have made those statements years ago
during a different time when he didn't know better, but let someone
find a person who has heard him say it or act like it in the last 20
years. Do you think people's hearts can change?

Slow day at my house.

Janice
