I'm glad you posted this because I was going to ask about it too, but not quite the same question.

A) Yes I have made such statements. I grew up that way and while I'm not defending it, I'm not going to apologize for going with the flow when I was young. I still find certain words appropriate to a situation, but am very careful when, where, and how I speak them--and to do it rarely and in context.

B) This is what strikes me most (and by the way, I'm not an Allen supporter): If what you do in your youth in an atmosphere that is acceptable at that time is going to be held as a litmus test against your aspirations 30 years later when we consider ourselves more "enlightened," then nobody should be running for office.

I'm about sick of the elitist hypocrites deciding what's offensive and what's not based on whether they like the person or not. Yeah, he probably said every word he's accused of and then some--in the 70s.

And...?
