I'm glad you brought it up, Su, no matter how it morphs. It's a big subject for a lot of us these days, with a lot of different angles to consider.
Dad is elderly, and his health isn't too great. He also lives 1000 miles away from me, in an isolated, rural community that I don't have any desire to live in. I'm working on ways to convince him to move closer to me so that I can be there for him when he needs me, and a lot of the things being brought up in this thread have given me food for thought, even the ones that are pro and anti moral obligation. So, I thank you for bringing it up!

And, yes, I agree that the thread is going in a direction that I never intended, and I'm sorry for contributing to it. I just wanted help with finding resources.
But I will say this ... I feel that taking care of your elderly parents is, and should remain, a personal decision (just like abortion) and not become a legal obligation.
