Yes, but the cops have a choice: they don't have to be cops. They can quit any time they want. And of course now we have learned the recruiters have been lying to people telling them there's not much chance of going to war and that if you want to get out it's pretty easy.

Well, to chime in here about the bullet-proof vests. There are numerous law enforcement agencies right here in the US that send those officers out to serve and protect and they do not even provide their officers with vests.

I saw an interview with some soldiers in Iraq the other day who were helping set up the Iraq police - they have plain old nissan trucks to do their job in. Really sad that there is NOTHING protecting them yet they are trying their best to make their country a better place. The number of Iraqi police has dropped tremendously and I think it is really sad.
