Would that it was so simple for everyone in the world to "give peace a
chance" by singing a "simple song of freedom." There is no peace
without war. Without war there would be no America as we know it.
Without war there would be no free Europe as we know it. Without war
the Taliban, who were DIRECTLY responsible for assisting Bin Laden kill
3000 of our citizens, would still be in power in Afghanistan taking
away the freedoms of women there and plotting more mass murder here.
Without war Saddam Hussein would be occupying Kuwait today and have
taken away the freedoms the Kuwaitis had.
Putting aside our own feelings about the present conflict, just
consider the history of the world. There have always been people who
have been willing to take what they want regardless of how it affected
the "freedom" of others. What is the rest of the world supposed to do?
Until we find a way to eliminate hatred and greed and thirst for
power, there will always be the need for armed might, no matter how
much we would like it to be otherwise. As a Christian I believe that
only the return of Jesus Christ will bring peace to this world, and in
the meantime there will never be true peace (i.e., the absence of
national conflicts) thus there will always be a need for people who are
willing to fight for freedom. But even without a Christian worldview,
history itself has proven that there is no peace without war.
What I find so ironic about those who protest war of any kind ("War!
UGH! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!") only have the freedom
to protest BECAUSE of war.
