Anybody remember their first ESL doc? I remember thinking I was going to die of old age, trying to figure out this guy's dictation. I also remember the day when his mumblings and meanderings finally started to fall into place; he ended up being a client for years and one of my favorites!
Actually, I think there are many more ESL doctors dictating these days than when I first started transcribing..
Having a good ear for foreign accents (and general mumbling) is something that no MT school can teach. You either have it or you don't, and no credential can ensure an employer that you have it.
