But evidently the concern about offshore outsourcing is misplaced, toThat's not necessarily true. IT is such a broad field. For example, PC
some degree at least, because there are still more good-paying jobs
than there are applicants in the IT field.

phone support has a lot of offshoring. However, it's hard to offshore
network cabling :-) It also depends upon where you live. In many
places, there's a lot of contract work, but very little full time work.
Not good if someone in your family has a chronic illness.
In the case of software engineering for example, all the large
companies such as Microsoft, IBM, etc., are opening engineering centers
in India, Asia, and China, simply as a cost-saving measure. The same
goes for the hardware companies, too. Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, Cisco, etc.
I was unemployed for over a year and weeks away from changing careers
when I got a job offer that came with a 55% cut in pay over what I had
been making at my previous job. Even with every single one of my
reviews being at the just below, "Walks on water", level, I'm still
making 7% less than I was before I was unemployed for over a year. And
I'm making 16% less than I was in 2001.
I'm not the only one. I know one person who was out of work for several
years.
Now, where are all these high-paying jobs you were talking about? :-)
