Re: Anyone know anything about this particular digital recorder?

Thanks everyone. I've passed along to my friend

The Olympus DS-2300, DS-3300 and DS-4000 will all allow you to edit on
the recorder, but quite frankly that's too much power for most of the
doctors I know! 8-)

As far as sound quality, I have had very good success with the DS-2s
and the old DS-330s even using the highest compression with .dss
format. Obviously the stereo mode on the DS-2 gives a much better
sound quality, but the files are way too big for sending over the
Internet reliably.

I don't know about this recorder, but I have bought a couple of
"refurbished" Olympus Recorders from Heartland in the $30 - $40 price range
that have been just fine.

When looking at recorders, however, don't take the length of recording time
seriously because that is in the most condensed mode with lousy quality
sound. I do not know of any of the digital recorders--even the more
expensive ones, that will let you back up and record, though my clients have
learned to deal with it. I have had very good luck with the Olympus
recorders and even the "cheap" ones have given no trouble. The less
expensive ones have shorter recording times, but my one client who
occasionally goes over the limit preferred to buy a second inexpensive
recorder rather than put a lot of money into a high-priced one. I make sure
I warn my clients that only the expensive ones may have removable media and
if the recorder fails, they will lose what is on it, but in 2 years now none
have failed.

Friend is looking into this - any pros/cons or why something else would be
better? Thanks
