What good would it do to have him take the oath on a book that he
doesn't believe in? You might as well have him take it with his hand
on a comic book. Why do you find it unacceptable for him to take it on
the Koran? If he swears to the Koran he is likely going to be held to
a more higher standard in his own mind and own community than if the
pinkies are on a bible.

I didn't say it was unacceptable. A lot of people who don't believe in the Bible have served in office. This paragraph is interesting:

"For all of American history, Jews elected to public office have taken their oath on the Bible, even though they do not believe in the New Testament, and the many secular elected officials have not believed in the Old Testament either. Yet those secular officials did not demand to take their oaths of office on, say, the collected works of Voltaire or on a volume of New York Times editorials. Have we not had any athiests or agnostics elected? I can't believe
they would have sworn on a bible. You don't have to swear on a bible in
court.

I could be wrong, but I thought all those elected to office had to swear on a Bible. This has been quite enlightening, as I've never thought about it before.
