Absolutely right. I wouldn't complain about the prices if the service was
even adequate! But the service is so bad that if it could be outsourced it
would probably improve! The language barrier couldn't be any worse!
It also varies from place to place. When we lived in NJ in a little town we
had a very conscientious postmistress and we had really excellent service
for the 27 years we lived there. Not so in any other places we have lived.

Don't get me started on our mail service. First we're lucky if anybody
can understand or speak English down there.
A couple of weeks ago I mailed some important papers to my BIL in Central
Florida. The address was completely correct, except I had transposed 2
numbers in the zip code, and they returned it "no such address". If I
had left the zip off it probably would have been delivered.
With so much mail now by e-mail, and checks (which used to be my highest
postage use) electronically transferred I want to know why the number of
employees at our post office have increased! It may cost more per item
to send less, but it doesn't take more people to handle it!

Postal employees are paid very well and have excellent benefits. I
figure the increasing postage costs reflect mostly that and increased
fuel costs, but no matter--email communications and package delivery
competition have to be hitting them hard. They're pretty much pricing
themselves out of work.

And you can't outsource mail carriers.
