I agree with much of what has already been said on this thread.
I bought a brand-new Dell XPS 410 about a month and a half ago, and I
love it, love it, love it. I paid close to $1,400 for it, and it has
the dual core technology. The only additions I made was to add a
3.5-inch floopy drive. I also upgraded the sound card.
This past Saturday, BTW, QVC had a Dell computer for the "Special Value
of the Day" with six easy payments. LOL.
The nice feature, though, is that it came with 4 years of warranty,
which is better than what I received from Dell. Also, this Dell on QVC
had 2 megs of RAM as opposed to the 1 meg I got on my XPS 410.
All in all, though, this XPS 410 is fast as can be and very quiet. My
older Compaq computer sounded as if it was going to blow up if I had
more than two applications running. A fan would come on and get very
loud.
I don't think you will go wrong with a Dell computer, if you decide to
purchase one. I highly recommend it, and my experience in dealing with
them on the phone to order mine was GREAT. Hope this helps a little.

Oh, yeah. My brother is retired from the armed services, and he is
able to purchase brand-new computers on the AAFES.com website. There
are MANY computer deals, to include Dell, Sony, Toshiba, HP, and other
brands. There is no tax and free shipping as well. Some of the Dell
deals are better than the ones on the actual Dell website, but you have
to read and read and read to find out which ones they are.
The biggest thing now is to get a separate graphics card that is not
"integrated." Of course, 2 megs of RAM is the nuts.
