Cable versus DSL, the Pros and Cons

I have DSL and enjoyusing it, much more so than the dial-up. I can't
believe I hung onto that dial-up as long as I did. However, if I am
hooked up to a website, say, recording a presentation which sometimes
may be live, if my phone rings from the phone number that shares my DSL
line, I am knocked off of the website and have to wait several minutes
to get DSL-connected again.

I know there is a way to block incoming calls if one has Call Waiting,
and as such, can I block incoming calls in the same manner when I am
recording LIVE, to prevent getting knocked off? I forget the number,
but I think it is star-something that you have to press before you pick
up the phone.

I was thinking about getting high-speed cable, but as I write this
post, I have no cable. I sure did miss TV last night. Cable went out
last evening due to high winds in my area. I was thinking that would
be a bummer if I needed to use the Internet and couldn't get connected
because of no cable service.

DSL versus cable. My DSL contract is getting ready to expire. Should
I make the switch? One thing for sure, when all else fails, I still
have my old faithful dial-up to save the day! ;>)

It is so COLD here in D.C. today. :>(
