One of mine was shiny black, so apparently they can be. And yes, you
can have them and be asymptomatic. I have three in my right kidney now
per latest ultrasound. They're not causing any problems, but if they
start to move down, they probably will (per the urologist) 'cause
they're too big to pass w/o a struggle.
