You bring up a real hot-button issue, which is just how much should be
expected of an MT. Like you, I'd like to think a professional MT
should be expected to catch obvious errors, but on the other side of
the coin is the question of whether that puts too MUCH liability on the
MT. Furthermore, I've had several people tell me they don't believe
there are enough "good" MTs in the business that even if there was
agreement that MTs should be held to a certain level of competence,
there wouldn't be enough MTs who could meet the standards. And on top
of all that you have the viewpoint that MTs don't get paid enough to
take on that much responsibility anyway. So it's a sticky wicket any
way you look at it.

Putting aside this doc's obvious don't care attitude, I can't believe
there weren't enough red flags in this report to get the MTs attention
that things didn't geehaw - sure would have a "real" MT.
