Re: Need a kind thought, please

Sandi, it is definitely hard and yes, the empty nest thing really hit me
hard. My son only went away to college and then he moved in with his
girlfriend, marriage, etc., and now expecting a child. I believe I would
really be close to freaking if I knew my baby was going into any part of our
Armed Forces, but you can definitely be proud of him to want to serve his
country. I know that is not much consolation because you know you are proud
of him, but that empty nest syndrome can be very difficult on some parents.
It was hard on me because it had just been me, my son and daughter for a
long time though my daughter left a long time before he did.

We just have to hurt inside for our pain and continue to tell them how proud
we are of them for doing something that he really wants to do. I feel for
you, but don't feel that you have to hold back tears if they just come
pouring out. You will be fine and if you do cry or something, I doubt there
is anyone that will be there that can't relate to your feelings.

See...no political stuff in my answer. Sometimes in these types of
situations we just have to hold off on any political comments. I don't have
a problem with that in any situation because I really do not like getting
into a political discussion with people unless I can look them in the eye.

Hold your head up high for that young man who is brave beyond words and show
him how proud you are even if you shed a million tears!

Give him a hug for me and tell him that hug is from this lady in VA named
Vickie, who is also proud of him. I do not have any sons who have served in
our Armed Forces nor have I had any husbands that have, but I have had
family that has and no matter what, you are proud of their courage and
patriotism.

Hi, y'all. I know, given the subject matter, that the temptation to turn
this into a political thread will be strong, but please, I beg of you,
resist!

At 11:00 tomorrow morning, I'm dropping my baby (okay, at 20 he's not A
baby, but he's still MY baby) off at the recruiting office to leave for
Army boot camp. This is really what he wants to do, and I'm so proud of
him I could explode, but oh, my goodness, my heart is absolutely broken!

A couple of weeks ago, when I asked for tomorrow off, I laughed it off
when the folks I work with said it would be hard. After all, he's 20, and
it's time he flew the coop, and frankly, I had begun to wonder if he would
ever move out. But this is by far the hardest thing I've ever
experienced. I cry at the drop of a hat. I'm driving him crazy, just
sitting and staring at him when he's home.

Has anyone else had the empty next thing hit them hard? This is sooooo
unexpected for me and frankly, I feel more than a little silly. Maybe it
would be easier if he were going somewhere that I could talk to him, but
just hugging him goodbye and not hearing from him for a while may turn me
into a nutcase!

Please keep a good thought for me tomorrow, in hopes that I don't make a
complete ass of myself or embarrass him too badly...

Sandi
