When I had my tack shop I went to small claims court, got judgments, and still never got paid. They were in the same county.
I did have to file at the Court House, so I think Rae's suggestion to call the Court House where the person/company who owes her money lives would be the thing to do because that is going to be where it has to be filed. The threat of filing may help. I filed against 3 people and one of them came and paid me before the court hearing because they didn't want it on their record. I got judgments against the other 2, but never collected a dime. I'm not sure, but someone may have to appear on your behalf in court. I believe it varies from state to state, but the collection has to be filed in their area, not yours. Also the amount that can be filed in Small Claims Court is limited, and varies from state to state, possibly even from county to county.

Would any of you know how to file a small claims case against someone in a different state? I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction since I see very good advice given all the time on SMT!
Thanks in advance,
Andrea
