My clients use cheaper Olympus recorders that do not have removable media,
but you could buy 2 cheaper recorders for far less than the ones with
removable cards--and then you are back to the same as picking up tapes! To
go totally digital out of house you need some way of transferring the files.

The cheaper recorders give excellent sound quality, incidentally, just do
not record on the slowest speed, though if there are 3 speeds the middle one
gives good quality.

My son has his own business, knows about HIPAA, and how to set up an FTP

Her computer would have to have a card reader to do that, wouldn't it? I'm
not sure if it has one, but I don't think so. Sounds handy, though.

they aren't done dictating for the day before I leave, I just get them
the next morning and replace them with blank cards.

No uploading, no hassles.

If she wanted to, she could just take the cards out of the recorders and
replace them with blank cards as the day progresses.
