That's not a good long-term solution, though, because it doesn't have all the vitamins and minerals they need.. My vet says to avoid any food that contains animal digest or animal by-products, and my pets will do fine. Okay, so I stretch the rules a bit in emergencies when the feed store isn't open and make sure that if it's there, it's WAY down the line. That leaves me with a bunch of high-priced brands -- Innova, etc. -- and for emergencies, one or two varieties of Purina ONE and one grocery store's Purina ONE knockoff.
Marlin Perkins is probably rolling over in his grave at what Kal Kan (the precursor of Pedigree) has done with their pet food.
