I'm finally switching over to the dark side

If you don't hear from me for a few days, do NOT send out the rescue
squad. Like I told Rae yesterday, I swung by Comcast and picked up
the stuff to switch over to high-speed Internet.

Right now in front of me is a small box I'm told is a modem I'm to
rent for about $3 a month along with a telephone cord, a power cord,
and a thingie cord (no idea yet what that one is). There's also a CD
to download software and a two-page pamphlet on how to set it up. So
far, so good!

Then there is the stuff from the actual Comcast box, which sent me
into a panic when I first saw the outside of the box PRINTED IN
SPANISH. Okay, when flipping the box over, I saw familiar English,
thank goodness. I was about to search online for the Babelfish
translator.

What was inside the box means absolutely nothing to me. NOTHING,
NADA, ZIP!!!!!!!

There is a long white cord and a smaller white cord, both with
attachments hiding a pin sticking up at their ends, vaguely
familiar. Next is a small package of white plastic loops with screws
in them. Lastly is something that looks VERY interesting, but I'm not
sure what it is for....I think it may be some type of a splitter???
On the top is labeled IN and the two things on the bottom are labeled
OUT. I'm hoping this ties into how I can continue using my TV set back
here that's on cable.

I love the Comcast booklet that came with all this. There are four
pages explaining what Comcast high-speed offers with exactly ONE page
dedicated to the setup of the thing, for either USB adapter or
Ethernet NIC. I think I'm the USB one. The rest of the 35 pages are
teeny tiny print consisting of agreements and terms and condition of
the product.

If and when I get all this set up and working, next I have to see how
my AOL can run under this. AOL I might be able to give up, but there
is no way I want to be online without my PowerTools features which
need AOL to work.

Anyway, good-bye for now. I hope you'll be seeing me posting soon. If
not, will you come visit me at the residential home for the
technically inept?
