I totally agree. We do tell everyone in the waiting room and we also call
the people at home who might show up and have to wait. I would have the
same expectation of the docs I go to, but again, I think that's another part
of the issue and not exactly central to what was being discussed, which is
how we react to and deal with having to wait to see the doc, I think:).
Well yeah - I thought that's what we were discussing, too. <G>
My limit is 30 minutes, tops. If I don't see the whites of the
doctor's eyes in that amount of time, I'm out of there. If they are
courteous enough to tell me there's going to be a wait and
approximately how long, then I can make an informed decision about
cutting my losses early or deciding to wait.
I saw a doctor on Friday who spent an hour with me. However, knowing
that he was going to need to spend a great deal of time with me, he
scheduled me as the last patient of the day.
People have an inflated sense of emergencies, as anyone who's done a
number of ER reports can attest. One of my clients tells patients to
go to the emergency room if their problem is urgent. If they really
have an emergency, the emergency room is better equipped to handle it
than the office staff, and he'll see them later at the hospital when
he's done with office hours.
Seeing patients at or close to their appointment time CAN be done with
a little time management and organization. And I have no sympathy at
all for doctors who overbook out of greed. Obviously they don't need
my business.
