We all hear the jokes about everything being bigger in Texas. This
might put things in perspective:
Before we start, El Paso is the western-most part of Texas. Houston is
not the eastern-most part of Texas, but is pretty close.
El Paso is closer to California than it is to Houston and Houston is
closer to Florida than El Paso. Plus, Texas is the only state with
three cities exceeding 1 million in population; Dallas, Houston, and
San Antonio.
