If we count by characters, yes, every character is counted, spaces, and
then we can count other things like tabs, bolds, underlines, hard
returns - all depends on what you set the count to be. I have a program
(MP Tools) that allows me to count just about anyway you could think of,
by the character or extended characters, setting number to consider a
line (65, 55 whatever). It will also count by gross line (anything on a
line) and allow me to compare any given method in a document (great if a
service pays one way and you are accustomed to another).
These programs will count an entire directory of files, list them all
with line count, and tally totals multiply by line rate, and make up a
nice invoice - all in very short order.
