Re: OT: SMT Family??

That is an interesting paper. Though I am not a "regular" in the SMT
family, I find myself reading this NG because it seems to be the best
of the best as it pertains to the transcription industry. The posters
are, in fact, knowledgeable, and I enjoy grabbing the little bits of
wisdom that are shared from time to time.

I have learned a lot about forum culture since I have been posting on
the Internet. There is a discussion forum, as an example, that
pertains to stock investments, and it is quite a busy site. One of
the "regular" posters on that site was a real gem, and his
contributions were always welcomed by the readers. Several days went
by when there wasn't a post made by him, and the "regulars" began to
worry, initiating posts about his whereabouts. Sadly, it was soon
learned that he passed away, and the forum regulars were extremely
upset. As such, many of them flew to his hometown and attended his
wake to honor his memory. His family had no idea how much this man
meant to the forum community and what an impact he made in their
lives.

In the age of Internet technology, it never ceases to amaze me how
easy it is to stay connected, network with others, and form bonds and
friendships. I personally have made good friends via discussion
forums, some who I have never met in person, but I feel as if I know
them because of years of communicating with them on these forums and/
or NGs.

The benefits of communicating via the Internet provides extraordinary
opportunities, depending on what you desire. Me personally, I have
benefited immensely from reading SMT. Thanks to all, and I look
forward to many more years of enjoyment.

Many theorists support that families are not just blood-tied, marriages,
etc. We were discussing how many families are formed from common purposes.
I, of course, thought of my SMT family.

If anyone is willing to share "familial" experiences you've had through
sci.med I would be thrilled to allow you to do so! LOL!

Examples might be: Support, disagreement, online contact vs offline
contact, meetings, close bonds, not-so-close bonds.

As many of you already know, in families there are several roles..... Share
what you might consider your role to have been in the grand scheme of
sci.med.

You can share here, of course, or if you'd prefer (and I would prefer),
email me.

Thanks in advance sistas and bros ;-)
