I think you can go to any place and have one built for you with any OS you
want as long as the OS is still available.  My friend also got one through
Dell and she called instead of ordering it online and got the XP versus
Vista.  

wow. A girl I know said Dell refused to give her anything other than
Vista. I'll have to ask her how she ordered it. Can you just go out
and buy the version of Windows OS that you want and do a reinstall
from the OS and up? I don't know what version of the MS programs come
with the Vista, so you might have to buy those too unless you have
some installation disks for those already. Just a thought I had since
I bought Windows XP 2 months ago from my local office supply store for
$210 I think it was.
