wow. A girl I know said Dell refused to give her anything other than
Vista.
She should call back and speak to someone else. After checking around, I
know of many people have gotten new dell laptops, since Vista came out, by
calling and requesting the different OS.
FYI, HSN also has a good bit of laptops and desktop systems they are
selling with XP instead of Vista.

I had this problem a couple of times, the 1st time was with a vista 10SE ... turned out there was just enough noise on the telephone line to stop it, ... always seemed to be in the same spot you speak of too and it could barely be ... the telecom guys ended up deferring it to SBC and in a couple of days ...
